METHOD FOR PREPARING OF SPECIAL FRESH ONION FOR STORAGE Russian patent published in 2008 - IPC A01F25/00 

FIELD: preparing of fresh onion for storage and further usage in space feeding.

SUBSTANCE: method involves sequentially extracting biomass of Mortierella nantahalensis micromycet using non-polar extractant in above-critical state, water, alkali, water, acid, water, alkali, and water; joining first extract with solid residue for producing of preparation from said biomass; sterilizing distilled water, gauze wads and smoking paper; preparing 70%-ethyl alcohol solution and 0.01%-suspension of biomass preparation, using sterilized distilled water as base; washing inspected bulb onion in sweet running water; holding in biomass preparation suspension at room temperature during 5 min; drying at temperature of 30±5 C until residual moisture content of upper scale is 18-20%; removing non-tightly adhering covering scale; cutting-off neck part; cleaning base; wiping each bulb with sterilized wad soaked in ethyl alcohol solution; exposing each side of bulb to ultraviolet radiation during 30 min at radiation intensity of 1.5-2.5 W/m³; packaging each bulb under aseptic conditions in smoking paper and placing in single layer within sterilized polymer trays. Method allows bulb onion shelf life to be increased up to 45 days.

EFFECT: prolonged shelf life of bulb onion and provision for using bulb onion in space feeding.
