SUBSTANCE: said method and device relate to automatic control systems with pulse-width encoder, which, by means of "greater" or "less" pulses, controls position-control servomechanism, which acts on the item being controlled. Automatic control method and device with pulse-width encoder and position-control servomechanism based on detecting a control error signal as a difference between the system output signal and setup signal, conversion thereof by the controller according to specified law of control into control action, further generation, by pulse-width encoder, of a series of pulses, which move the position-control servomechanism in the "greater" or "less" direction, acting on the item being controlled. Minimum pulse duration in the pulse-width encoder changes dynamically and depends on control error modulus change signal, bounded below and above by minimum and maximum permissible pulse duration values.
EFFECT: enhanced reliability.
