SUBSTANCE: communication network (600) contains master node (602) and one or more slave nodes (614, 618, 622) connected to one another using unidirectional data transmission channels (610, 628, 634). Master node (602) provides data availability for the following nodes, and slave node (622) retrieves data from the preceding node (618), the retrieved data contain the information about the path from the master node to the slave node. A method of path configuration is also revealed, by sending data from slave node (622) to all nodes, to paths, through bidirectional data transmission channels (628, 612, 632) between the nodes. According to the preferred implementation version, home entertainment system (600) using HDMI is a suitable network and contains a visualisation component, for example, TV set (602) capable of functioning as the master node; the network nodes being connected with one another using HDMI cables (608, 624, 616). The HDMI specification contains a DDC bus for the support of the above unidirectional data transmission channels (610, 628, 634) and a CEC bus for the support of the above bidirectional data transmission channels (628, 612, 632).
