FIELD: technological processes, measurement.

SUBSTANCE: invention is related to the sphere of earth surface investigation with the help of space photographs and may be used for determination of pastures condition subject to degradation. Space shooting of earth surface related to pastures is made in late autumn or early summer period. The received image is transformed in digital format. Computer estimation of this image photo background is done in accordance with 256-level scale of grey colour. Contours of pastures are marked out. Number of pixels that make the pasture image is calculated at every level. Areas of pasture sections are determined, which are distributed in levels of grey colour scale. The processed image is referred to geographical coordinates and transformed. Type of soil is determined with the help of soil chart. The estimation of pastures degradation is performed by relative area of projective soil covering with grass vegetation.

EFFECT: provision of distance monitoring of pastures, on the basis of space shots.
