FIELD: technological processes, metals processing.
SUBSTANCE: invention is related to methods of vacuum-plasma application of wear resistant coatings on cutting tool and may be used in metals processing. Lower layer of multi-layer coating is made of nitride or carbonitride of titanium, molybdenum and aluminium compound with their ratio of, weight % - titanium 78.7-79.9, molybdenum 7.0-7.3, aluminium 13.1-14.0, and upper layer - from nitride and carbonitride of titanium, molybdenum and chrome with their ratio of, weight % - titanium 81.5-82.7, molybdenum 6.9-7.2, chrome 10.4-11.3. Application of coating layers is done with three cathodes that are installed horizontally in one plane. The first cathode is made as assembled from titanium and aluminium, the second one is made as assembled from titanium and chrome and installed opposite to the first one, and the third one is made as assembled from titanium and molybdenum and installed between them.
EFFECT: increase of cutting tool serviceability.
