FIELD: metal working, namely processes for applying multi-layer wear-resistant coatings on cutting tools.
SUBSTANCE: method comprises step of vacuum-plasma deposition of layers of coating. According to invention are applied: lower layer of titanium compound and iron-alloyed metal; upper layer of titanium nitride or carbonitride and metal; intermediate layer of upper layer material alloyed with iron. Process is realized at using aluminum, molybdenum, chrome, zirconium or silicon as metal. Layers of coating are applied by means of three cathodes arranged horizontally in the same plane. Two built-up cathodes are made of titanium and used metal and they are arranged mutually opposite. Third built-up cathode is made of titanium and iron.
EFFECT: enhanced adhesion and cohesion strength of layers with base material, improved effectiveness of cutting tool.
