FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: oxidation catalyst of ethylene in ethylene oxide is described, free from rhenium and transition metal, which is solid silver and containing the combination of promoters consisting of (1) alkaline metals in quantity 400-1500 ppm by weight of the catalyst, (2) barium in the quantity 5-500 ppm by the weight of the catalyst and (3) sulfur in the quantity 5-300 ppm by the weight of the catalyst. Also described is the method of obtaining ethylene oxide, including the interaction of ethylene and molecular oxygen in the presence of the above described catalyst.
EFFECT: increase in the selectivity of the catalyst.
