FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to ways of processing bottom sludgy sediments, in particular, those contaminated with heavy metals and organic material, which are formed from sediment from purification of waterways or contaminated soils. In order to apply the method, bottom sludgy sediments are sequentially turned into inert form and foamed by adding phosphoric acid under controlled conditions, which include regulated mechanical mixing, that makes it possible to obtain foam with density less than 90% of density of bottom silt sediments, stage of foam drying and stage of its calcination. In preferable variant of method application, dried bottom sludgy sediments reach content of dry material, exceeding 65%, after 12 days of drying in trench for composting, which contains layer of sand located on water proof membrane. Temperature of calcination is maintained within 550 and 750°C, product obtained after calcination is mixed with water and then deposited and hardened. Method ensures economical and fast change of bottom sludgy sediments into products that have mechanical strength sufficient for simple mechanical action during replacement.
