FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: invention is related to the field of hydroacoustics and is intended for determination of true lateral velocity of vessel in calibration of logs. Method consists in the fact that whenever vessel passes with permanent velocity past two theodolite posts, distance between which is known and values of bearing from the first post to the second and vessel course are equal, apart from measurement of time of vessel passing past posts, from them directions to vessel are determined in the moment of its passing past the first and then the second post. Since lines of theodolites sighting and line that connects points of their installation create right-angled triangles, lateral velocity of vessel is calculated by formula where S - distance between theodolites, t - time of vessel passing lines of theodolites sighting.
EFFECT: provision of possibility of determination of true lateral velocity of vessel in calibration of logs on measured mile course with theodolite posts.
