FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: one measurement of the attenuation coefficient is done in four time steps, fixing the signals at the outputs of receivers at two different values of brightness of the first and second sources. "N" measurements are taken and the average value of the attenuation coefficient is calculated from a formula. In the absence of ambient light the second version to the method is used, which involves taking one measurement of the attenuation coefficient after two time steps. In that case signals at the outputs of the receivers when illuminated by the first source, are fixed in the first time step, and in the second time step, when illuminated by the second source, n measurements are taken in two time steps. The average value of the coefficient of attenuation is calculated from a formula. Use of two sources and two receivers of collimated light, which are put at different points in the medium such that, beams from the first and second sources are incident on both receivers, allows for eliminating the effect of the optical absorption coefficient in optical tracts of the device and illuminators and ambient light on the measurement results of luminance variability of the source and sensitivity of the light receiver.
EFFECT: increased accuracy of measurement.
