FIELD: transport.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to motor industry, namely to hydrodynamic retarders. Retarder contains rotor blade wheel with number ZR blades, stator blade wheel with number ZS blades. Rotor blade wheel and stator blade wheel form toroidal work chamber between them in which via working medium torque is transmitted from rotor blade wheel (2) to stator blade wheel. Blades have profile with inner diameter D1 and outer diameter DA. Mean number Zm of blades, derived from half of the sum of number ZR of rotor blades and number Zs of stator blade multiplied by coefficient fv profile shift coefficient derived by division of outer profile diameter DA,V radial shifted with regard to normal profile by normal profile outer diameter DA, is established depending on work medium. Zm for work medium oil comprises 22-25, in particular 23.5±0.35, and for work medium water or water mixture - 19-22, in particular 20.5±0.35. Normal profile is determined by the following relation: DI=0.4±0,05DA. Decrease of noise is reached and degree of constructive freedom is preserved.
