FIELD: physics.

SUBSTANCE: decameter range signal is radiated from aircraft. Quadrature processing of returned signal follows and resulted in complex envelope thereafter filtered to generate signal corresponding to radar object image. Complex number is determined with real and imaginary parts equal to average real and imaginary parts of complex envelope. Argument of complex number is determined, and Average values are deducted from real and imaginary parts of complex envelope. Argument of derived complex function is determined. Derived arguments are deduced, while object depth is determined.

EFFECT: possibility to determine object depth.
