FIELD: information technologies.
SUBSTANCE: method is based on reception of radio impulses by two identical antennas, aperture centers of which are distanced in plane of direction finding at the distance that exceeds length of controlled radio impulses wave 5…10 times, measurement of their bearing frequency, measurement of phase difference between radio impulses received by the first and second antennas, calculation of several bearing values of radio impulses source by measured difference of phases according to the following formula , where Θ is calculated value of bearing counted clockwise from perpendicular to straight line that connects antenna aperture centers; d is distance between centers of antenna aperture; c=3·108 m/s is speed of light; f is measured bearing frequency of radio impulses; Δφ is measured difference of signal phases from outlets of the first and second antennas; n is natural number or zero, their comparison to coarse estimate of bearing Θr and accepting the closest to it as bearing for source of radio impulse.
EFFECT: introduced reception of radio impulses by the third antenna, measurement of time shift between radio impulses received by the first and third antennas, and calculation of coarse estimation of bearings by results of these measurements provide for expansion of direction finding sector.
