FIELD: mechanics.
SUBSTANCE: proposed method comprises the stages that follow. Workpieces are loaded from the hopper into circular feed unit. Workpieces are transferred into cutting area representing an edge-like gap formed by round-nosed section groove arranged on the abrasive wheel peripheral surface and a flat clamping surface of the said angular feed unit. The abrasive wheel peripheral surface represents a truncated cone, while the groove section center is located on the cone generating line. The axis of rotation of the said abrasive wheel is inclined to the said clamping surface at the angle φ making φ=90°-β, where β is the angle of inclination of the section groove midplane towards the said clamping surface selected from the ratio ,
where nc is the rotary speed of the angular feed unit. The cone generating line is located parallel to the said clamping plane at the distance equal to preset radius of processed ball, for the least section of wedge gap.
EFFECT: higher processing efficiency along with higher ball surface quality and ball shape precision.
