FIELD: engineering industry.

SUBSTANCE: invention refers to engineering industry, and can be used when grinding spherical end surfaces, and mainly tapered rollers of tapered roller bearings. Spherical end surfaces are ground with the radius that is less than the specified radius of spherical end surface by the value of allowable deflection. There used are reference workpieces of tapered rollers with increased sizes of diameter of larger base and angle of cone thereof, which are determined from the condition providing the specified sizes of diameter of larger base and angle of cone at the subsequent grinding passes of tapered roller cone generatrix. Processing is performed continuously with a shaped grinding wheel using the machine that includes orientation mechanisms, feed-and-removal mechanisms, and points for locating and moving workpieces. The latter are made in the form of two replaceable bowl-shaped coaxial plates installed so that they can be turned in various directions at various speeds. One of the plates is provided with the end surface having an annular crown with cavities that are located radially and made in the form of angular prisms, and the other one - with the end surface equipped with a constant annular magnet.

EFFECT: improving the accuracy of spherical surface shape and stability of the radius thereof, which provides the specified guaranteed friction torque of tapered roller bearings.
