FIELD: electrical engineering.

SUBSTANCE: present invention pertains to methods of powering electric vehicles and can be used for powering trolley buses, electric cars, electric loaders, trams, electric tractors, electric locomotives and other electric vehicles. The method of powering electric vehicles involves transmitting electrical energy through a high voltage high frequency converter to separate current collectors from one of three single phase high frequency resonance transformers. Power is supplied from each single-wire line to each electric vehicle using electrostatic induction through an air gap between the insulated single-wire line and the current collector. The device which implements this method has a source of electrical energy, to which is connected a frequency converter, step-up resonance transformer, as well as a single-wire line for each traffic lane and current collectors of the electric vehicle. Each current collector is in form of a thin insulated sheet of conducting material and is fitted in the electric vehicle parallel the single-wire line.

EFFECT: increased reliability and reduced supply failure in electric vehicles.
