METHOD FOR EARLY DIAGNOSTICS OF POSTNATAL DISEASES IN SOWS Russian patent published in 2009 - IPC A61D99/00 

FIELD: veterinary medicine.

SUBSTANCE: sample is taken from sow vagina 4-5 days prior to expected farrow. Samples are taken with swab fixed to holder. Amount of cotton wool is taken so that it may absorb 0.1 ml of liquid. Samples are placed into sterile test tube with 4.9 ml of 0.9% of sodium chloride solution. Test tube is shaken several times and 0.05 ml of suspension is plated onto Petri dish with beef-extract agar. Petri dish with inolculation is placed in thermostat at 37°C for 24 hours. Afterwards colonies are calculated. If there are grown colonies in amount of 0-10 per 1 cm² - concentration is low, if there are 10-50 of them per 1 cm² - concentration is medium, if there are 50 and more - concentration is high. Animals with low concentration in 95.3% remain healthy after farrow. Animals with medium concentration in 50% of cases have postnatal diseases such as endometritis or MMA syndrome, and animals with high concentration have endometritis or MMA syndrome in 96.3% cases.

EFFECT: prediction of postnatal complications in sows such as endometritis or MMA syndrome before farrow at cheaper nutrient medium, simplification of method realisation.
