SURGICAL CORRECTION TECHNIQUE OF DISTAL FEMUR DEFECTS Russian patent published in 2009 - IPC A61B17/56 

FIELD: medicine.

SUBSTANCE: invention refers to medicine, namely to orthopaedics and traumatology and is applied for surgical correction of distal femur defects. The first operative stage includes application of a compression distraction apparatus on femoral and shin bones, osteotomy of femur and distraction to form bone regenerate. The second stage ensures removing the compression distraction apparatus followed by approach to distal femur and knee joint cavity. Cicatricial tissues of joint cavity and articular surface of shin bone are resected. Intramedullary canal of femur is restored completely with passing the drills from end surface of femur through the formed regenerate to residual medullary space. Components of bipolar knee joint prosthesis are mounted with a femoral component fixed in reformed intramedullary canal of femur. Supports of the compression distraction apparatus are arranged at the following levels: subtrochanteric region; interface of superior and mid-third of femur; shin bone condyles; inferior third of shin bone. Femur osteotomy is ensured between two upper supports of the apparatus. Bipolar knee joint prosthesis is replaced 4-6 days after the compression distraction apparatus is removed.

EFFECT: method provides combined restoration of anatomic and biomechanical limb properties, considerable reduction of treatments time and rehabilitation.
