FIELD: physics; communications.

SUBSTANCE: present invention generally relates to communication networks, and more specifically to the method and device for predetermining service category of data transfer in such networks. The method of moving traffic in a communication network (10) without establishing connection from the initial location (12, 14) to a destination (16, 18), in which traffic is related to predetermined service category of data transfer, lies in that, there are stages on which the main route of the traffic is designated. The main route operationally connects the initial location (12, 14) with the destination (16, 18). The main route is determined from several possible routes, based on that, movement of traffic from the initial location (12, 14) to the destination (16, 18) does not exceed given maximum delay of data transfer. An alternative route for the traffic is designated, and is selected based on that, it does not exceed given maximum delay of data transfer, making it possible for the alternative route move traffic when the main route is inaccessible.

EFFECT: provision for differentiated servicing in communication networks with packet switching without establishing connection.
