FUEL ELEMENT Russian patent published in 2009 - IPC H01M8/12 H01M4/86

Abstract RU 2361332 C1

FIELD: physics.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to fuel elements and can be used for making current sources in different industries. According to the invention, the said fuel element consists of a cathode, anode and electrolyte, each of which contains complex metal oxides. The porous anode is cermet, containing nickel and complex zirconium oxide stabilised by yttrium, ceric oxide subdivided by gadolinium or doped with samarium. The material of electrolyte contains complex oxides of the same type as the anode. The cathode consists of complex oxide LixNiO2, where x=0.1÷0.5, mainly 0.3-0.45. Alkaline and carbon-bearing compounds are added to the electrolyte in amounts of 30-50% of the mass of the electrolyte. Complex oxides of the anode, cathode and electrolyte are obtained from pyrolysis of polymer-salt compositions. The anode has porosity of not less than 30-40%, and specific surface area of oxygen carrying solid oxides, contained in the anode, cathode and electrolyte, is not less than 50 m/g.

EFFECT: simplification of the process of obtaining initial materials for making fuel cells, improvement of their quality, simplification of making each fuel cell, reduced thickness of the electrolyte layer, increased power of the fuel element and stability of its operation under reasonable conditions.
