FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to methods of depositing wear-resistant coating on a cutting instrument and can be used in metal working. An under layer is deposited from a nitride or carbonitride compound of titanium, zirconium and iron with the following ratio of components, wt %: titanium 86.5-88.2, zirconium 10.0-11.0, iron 1.8-2.5; an intermediate layer from nitride or carbonitrile compound of titanium, zirconium, chrome and iron with the following ratio of components, wt %: titanium 80.7-82.8, zirconium 9.3-10.3, chrome 6.7-7.3, iron 1.2-1.7; a top layer from nitride or carbonitride compound of titanium, zirconium and chrome with the following ratio of components, wt %: titanium 69.0-72.0, zirconium 18.0-20.0, chrome 10.0-11.0. Three cathodes are used, lying horizontally in the same plane. The first cathode is made from titanium and iron, the second from titanium and chrome and is placed opposite the first, and the third electrode is made from titanium and zirconium and is placed in between.
EFFECT: increased efficiency of the cutting instrument.
