FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to ferrous metallurgy, namely to making of rail steel. Steel contains carbon, silicon, manganese, chromium, vanadium, aluminium, nitrogen, molybdenum, nickel, boron, one or several elements selected from the group including rare-earth metals, zirconium, strontium, calcium and barium, one of the elements selected from the group including niobium and titanium, iron and impurities with the following ratio of the components, wt %: carbon 0.25-0.37, silicon 0.90-1.50, manganese 1.00-1.60, chromium 0.10-0.30, vanadium 0.08-0.15, aluminium 0.005 maximum, nitrogen 0.012-0.020, molybdenum 0.10-0.30, nickel 0.80-1.40, boron 0.0003-0.002, rare-earth metals 0.0005-0.005, zirconium 0.0005-0.005, strontium 0.0005-0.005, calcium 0.0005-0.005, barium 0.0005-0.005, niobium 0.003-0.05, titanium 0.001- 0.02, the rest is iron and impurities. The additives in steel can be sulphur 0.015 wt % maximum, phosphorus 0.020 wt % maximum and copper 0.20 wt % maximum.%.
EFFECT: well-balanced complex of mechanical properties and improved service durability of the rails.
