SUBSTANCE: invention concerns systems with use of reflexion or secondary emission of electromagnetic or other waves, namely to range finders. The invention consists in registration of number of impulses of reference frequency, realisation of circular scanning of space by the diagram of orientation of an intake with angular speed ω reception of a signal rayed by object at its finding in the directional diagram, measurement of time interval T of object finding in the directional diagram, calculation of range to object from the expression: . The range finder realising the way, contains a reception path, a key, an impulse counter, a calculator and the memory unit with an indicator connected in series, and also the generator of impulses of reference frequency, an initiator of angular speed ω an initiator of length L of a cross section of the directional diagram of the receiving aerial, and the output of the generator of impulses of reference frequency is jointed to a key input terminal, and exits of an initiator of angular speed ω an initiator of length L of a cross section of the directional diagram of the receiving aerial are connected to calculator input terminals.

EFFECT: possibility of measurement of range without use of an emission signal.
