SUBSTANCE: invention relates to computer engineering and can be used for identifying the winning sector number of a roulette wheel. In the method an image is received from a video system and converted to a two-dimensional array, elements of which are colour values of image pixels, modified to gray gradations. The position of the video system is calibrated first and is placed such that, the roulette sector, containing at least three numbers, falls in the visibility scope. Zones containing an image of separator cells are searched for, as well as zones containing an image of the sector number and the region of the image with the ball. The zone of the sector number corresponding to the ball is selected and identification is done. The device contains a video system, calibration unit, unit for selecting ball and number zones, unit for identifying the ball, unit for selecting the number, unit for identifying digits and unit for outputting the winning number.
EFFECT: increased accuracy of identifying a winning number without modifying the roulette wheel due to automatic calibration of the video system, as well as use of multiple identification of the number image.
