FIELD: instrument engineering.
SUBSTANCE: invention concerns location systems. An inactive mobile unit updates its position data by transferring the first message to an access-feeder node through wireless link. In response to the first message, the access-feeder node forms the second updating message. The second message includes a mobile unit identifier and in some versions, is sent to the mobile unit. The second message is received by a tracking agent that updates the position data related to the mobile unit. In that case where the second message is an IP-message and routed in the mobile unit through Internet protocol (IP) of mobile communication, a home agent of Internet protocol (IP) of mobile communication routes the second message to the last connection to mobile unit network wherein the tracking agent that taps the message is placed. The tracking agent can transfer a response message to the access-feeder node that transferred the second message.
EFFECT: higher efficiency of position tracking.
