FIELD: metallurgy.

SUBSTANCE: invention refers to procedures of application of multi-layer coating on cutting tool and can be implemented at metal treatment. Vacuum-plasma application of multi-layer coating is performed. There is applied a lower layer out of nitride or carbonitride of a compound of titanium, silicone and iron at their ratio, wt %: titanium 96.8-97.4, silicone 0.8-1.0, and iron 1.8-2.2, an intermediary layer out of nitride or carbonitride of a compound of titanium, silicon, aluminium and iron at their ratio, wt %: titanium 89.1-90.3, silicon 0.5-0.7, aluminium 8.0-8.7, and iron 1.2-1.5; and finally there is applied an upper layer of nitride or carbonitride of a compound of titanium, silicon and aluminium at their ratio, wt %: titanium 86.0-87.3, silicone 0.7-1.0, and aluminium 12.0-13.0; also application of coating layers is executed with three cathodes arranged horizontally in one plane; where the first of the cathodes is complex and made out of titanium and iron, the second one is complex out of titanium and aluminium and it is arranged opposite to the first cathode, while the third cathode is complex made out of alloy of titanium and silicone and it is situated between the first and the second cathodes. The lower layer is applied with the first and the third cathodes; the intermediary layer is applied with all three cathodes, and the upper layer is applied with the second and the third cathodes.

EFFECT: increased operating capacity of cutting tool.
