FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention can be used in aircraft construction, medicine and microelectronics. A frame is made, corresponding to the shape of the object, and is impregnated with binder. If organic fibre - micoton is used as the frame, then the binder is a solution of amineborane in hydrofurane. If the frame is a neutron moderator, for example magnesium oxide or zirconium oxide, stabilised by yttrium oxide, then the binder is a polymer reagent from a series which includes polycarbosilane, polysilazane and polysiloxane. The impregnated frame is dried and subjected to thermal processing in conditions which provide for density of gas medium of 0.6-2.2 g/cm2. Gas medium containing nitrogen, helium, argon or hydrogen can be used. After thermal processing, impregnation and thermal processing can be done at least once more.
EFFECT: obtained composite materials have a small thermal-neutron capture cross-section, density of 1,8 - 3,2 g/cm3, and modulus of elasticity of 150-330 GPa.
