FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to water treatment methods using ultraviolet radiation and chemical reagents. To realise the proposed method, a sensitising agent should be used to make the solution more sensitive to wavelengths of a UV lamp. The method of purifying waste water involves treatment using ultraviolet radiation in the presence of a sensitising agent and air. A substance which absorbs impurities is further added to the water, where the substance is chosen from a water soluble polyfunctional polymer, which includes protein, starch, and the sensitising agent is substance from a range which includes hypochlorite, persulphate, perchlorate and/or organic compounds, containing chromophoric groups.
EFFECT: increased efficiency of free-radical photoinitiated process of oxidation of toxic impurities in waste water.
