FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: coherent polarised microwave is emitted to the surface of the analysed metal object which is under tension. The reflected diffracted electromagnetic wave is received and acoustic emission parametres are determined from parametres of the received wave. Exposure of the object to the electromagnetic wave is done simultaneously with exposure to an ultrasonic wave.
EFFECT: increased sensitivity and technological effectiveness of detecting acoustic emission signals in metals.
