METHOD OF DETERMINING TIME OF HUMAN VISUAL SYSTEM PERSISTENCE Russian patent published in 2009 - IPC A61B3/02

Abstract RU 2372834 C1

FIELD: medicine.

SUBSTANCE: tested person is shown sequence of two light pulses of set duration, equal 50 msec, separated with pause equal 150 msec, repeated after constant time interval of about 1.5 sec. Duration of pause between light pulses is reduced until tested person does not determine moment of subjective blending of two light pulses into one. At the first stage of measurements duration of pause between two light pulses is reduced with set constant rate of about 20 msec/sec, until tested person does not determine estimatingly subjective blending of two light pulses into one. At the second stage of measurements duration of pause between two light pulses is increased with set constant rate of about 5 msec/sec, until tested person does not determine moment of subjective sensation of separateness of two light pulses. At the third stage of measurements duration of pause between two light pulses is reduced with set constant rate of about 2 msec/sec, until tested person does not determine moment of subjective blending of two light pulses into one. Tested person is first shown light pulses of blue colour, first, second and third stages of measurements being carried out. At the third stage of measurements value of pause duration at the moment of subjective blending of two light pulses into one is taken as time of persistence of rod path of visual system trod. At the fourth stage of measurements tested person is shown light pulses of yellow colour, pause duration between two light pulses is increased with set constant rate of about 5 msec/sec, until tested person does not determine moment of subjective sensation of separateness of two light pulses. At the fifth stage of measurements pause duration between two light pulses is reduced with set constant rate of about 2 msec/sec, until tested person does not determine moment of subjective blending of two light pulses into one. Value of pause duration at the moment of subjective blending of two light pulses into one at the fifth stage of measurements is taken as time of persistence of cone path of visual system tcone. After that time of human visual system persistence is calculated as arithmetical mean value by formula:

where trod - time of persistence of rod path of visual system, msec; tcone - time of persistence of cone path of visual system.

EFFECT: method extends arsenal of means for determination of time of visual system persistence.
