FIELD: physics; acoustics.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to quantisation of spatial parametres of sound. Quantisation of parametres, which is a measure which characterises a channel or a pair of channels, where the parametre is a measure which characterises a channel or a pair of channels relative another channel of a multichannel signal, can be carried out more efficiently using quantisation rules, generation of which is based on the ratio of the energy value of the channel or pair of channels to the energy value of the multichannel signal. When generating a quantisation rule, taking into account a psycho-acoustic approach, amount of coded presentation of the multichannel signal can be reduced through coarser quantisation without significant deterioration of the quality of perception of the multichannel signal, reconstructed from the coded presentation.
EFFECT: more efficient compression without significant worsening of quality of perception of the sound signal.
