SUBSTANCE: invention relates to updating installed software. The method of updating software in a computer system involves steps on which a software update is received using an automatic update agent; in response to reception of the software update, without intervention of the user, the currently loaded copy of the executable module related to the received software update is identified, and the received software update is applied to the identified currently loaded copy of the executable module in order to modify behaviour of the identified copy of the executable module.
