SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method and a device for copying and moving digital content having right information between a device and a portable storage device. The method of moving a rights object from a digital multimedia device to a portable storage device involves the following: converting the rights object into a format supported by the portable storage device using said digital multimedia device for generating the converted rights object; encoding the converted rights object using said digital multimedia device to generate an encoded rights object; moving the encoded rights object from said digital multimedia device to the portable storage device; and decoding the rights object stored in the said digital multimedia device if the encoded rights object has been moved.
EFFECT: increased reliability due to protection of digital content data from loss or unauthorised access.
