FIELD: physics; communications.

SUBSTANCE: method and system for providing assymetrical operation modes in multi-carrier wireless communication systems are proposed. The method can assign a long code mask (LCM) in an information channel associated with several carriers in a direct communication line for transmitting data from an access network to an access terminal; and multiplex this information channel on a return communication line carrier. This information channel can contain one of data source channel (DSC) information, data rate control (DRC) and acceptance acknowledgement (ACK), and multiplexing can be code division multiplexing (CDM). The access network (AN) can notify the access terminal (AT) whether DSC information should be multiplexed, based on feedback from the AT. The method can further shift ACK information in the return communication line to reduce the peak value of the return communication line to a mean value, carry out CDM of the information channel into I-branches and Q-branches, and transmit the code division multiplexed channel at the return communication line carrier.
