FIELD: engines and pumps.
SUBSTANCE: method of operating rocket engine comprises continuous feed of heat to working medium from heat source and continuous generation of working medium potential energy and its conversion into kinetic energy via expansion in supersonic nozzle. In compliance with this invention, gaseous products of fuel combustion are used as heat and working medium sources, while steam generator fluid, e.g. water or atmospheric air, makes an extra working medium to be fed into fuel combustion fuel before expansion in aforesaid nozzle. Also nuclear power can be used as heat source, while steam generator fluid makes a working medium to be fed into engine chamber wherein nuclear power heat source is arranged. Several heat, working medium and steam generator fluid sources are covered. Proposed rocket engine comprises heat source, working medium source, working medium potential energy generator and supersonic nozzle for working medium expansion It differs from known designs in that, in using rocket fuel combustion products as hear and working medium source, it additionally incorporates steam generation fluid source and system to feed said fluid into fuel combustion products; or, in using nuclear reactor as heat source and steam generation fluid as working medium, it additionally comprises the system to feed said fluid into regeneration chamber accommodating either reactor circuit heat exchanger or reactor heat emission elements Invention covers application of various types of rocket fuels.
