SUBSTANCE: in the postoperative period, lachrymal fluid is analysed for a marker of age-associated crystalline lens changes - active peroxyredoxine VI and/or fragments of disintegration thereof. If active peroxyredoxine VI and/or fragments of disintegration thereof are found in the lachrymal fluid, age-associated cataract is diagnosed. In the postoperative period, the medical products intended for improvement of metabolic processes in retina and optic nerve, are not applied. The absence of active peroxyredoxine VI and/or fragments of disintegration thereof in the lachrymal fluid enables to diagnose cataract caused by crystalline lens changes with underlying metabolic interference. Cataract is considered to be complicated, and the operative intervention involves posterior capsulorhexis, while the postoperative period comprises pathogenetic therapy of underlying metabolic interference.

EFFECT: application of the method allows for higher accuracy in choosing the therapeutic approach to cataract.
