FIELD: information technologies.
SUBSTANCE: wireless communication network supports 802.11b/g and range extension mode which supports at least one data transmission rate that is lower than the lowest rate in 802.11b/g. Transmitting station (which can be access point or subscriber terminal) includes the first and the second processors. The first processor executes differential modulation and spectrum spreading for the first set from at least one data transmission rate (e.g. 1 and 2 Mbit/s) supported by 802.11b/g. The second processor executes coding with forward error correction (FEC), conversions into characters and spectrum spreading for the second set from at least one transmission rate (e.g. 250, 500 and 1000 Kbit/s) supported by range extension mode. Transmitting station can send transmission at data transmission rate supported either by 802.11b/g or by range extension mode, e.g. depending on coverage required for transmission. Receiving station executes complementary processing for transmission recovery.
EFFECT: supporting operating mode with extended transmission range.
