SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method and device for signal time scaling. A decoder (501) receives a bit stream containing an encoded mono-signal and stereo data. A time scaling processor generates a time scaled mono signal. A time-frequency conversion processor generates frequency sample units of the time scaled signal, where the length of the units is fixed and is independent of time scaling. A parametric stereo decoder generates a stereo signal for frequency sample units which are converted into the time domain by the frequency-time conversion processor. A synchronisation processor synchronises stereo data with the time scaled signal by determining time association between the parametre value and the frequency sample unit. The parametre value and the time association are used to determine synchronisation of the value of stereo parametres for that and other frequency sample units.

EFFECT: easy generation of time scaled stereo signals from encoded MPEG-4 signals and/or improvement of synchronisation.
