FIELD: physics, navigation.

SUBSTANCE: proposed device relates to aircraft engineering and is designed for determining distance between aircraft in flight. The disclosed device has a land-based automated air traffic control system and onboard request unit and transponder. The land-based automated air traffic control system has two bearing measuring devices, two altitude measuring devices, two devices for measuring slant range distance, four adders, seven multiplier units, two square root calculating units, two sine calculating units and an indicator, connected to each other in a defined way. The request unit has a driving generator, sawtooth-voltage generator, frequency modulator, two power amplifiers, first duplexer, first transceiving antenna, multiplier, band-pass filter, phase doubler, two narrow band-pass filters, phase halver, phase detector, frequency metre and a recording unit, connected to each other in a defined way. The transponder has a second transceiving antenna, a second duplexer, two power amplifiers, a pseudorandom sequence generator and a phase keying circuit, also connected to each other in a defined way.

EFFECT: broader functional capabilities of the device due to off-line duplication when determining distance between aircraft and the side number of the approaching aircraft.
