METHOD OF PREPARING POLYOL COMPOSITION AND POLYOL COMPOSITION Russian patent published in 2010 - IPC C08G65/329

Abstract RU 2385886 C2

FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to obtaining polymer products and specifically polyol compositions. Described is a method of preparing a polyol composition through free-radical polymerisation of ethylene-unsaturated monomers in a polyol medium, a stabiliser prepared beforehand and polymerisation control reagents, including an initiator, involving loading reagents, their batching and mixing. The method is distinguished by that polyol and the stabiliser are mixed first, the reaction mixture is heated decomposition temperature of the initiator, after which under continuous batching conditions ethylene-unsaturated monomers and polymerisation control reagents are fed in while stirring continuously in turbulent conditions, characterised by Reynolds number 1300-1500, with shear loading in the interval 5-15 s-1, while continuing synthesis in the said conditions for half the duration of synthesis, after which temperature of the reaction mixture is lowered by 10-20°C below the decomposition temperature of the initiator, while continuing synthesis in the said stirring conditions for half the duration of synthesis. Temperature of the obtained product is then raised to decomposition temperature of the initiator and mixing is continued in the said conditions until achieving not more than 0.5 wt % content of unreacted ethylene-unsaturated monomers. Also described is a polyol composition for producing flexible polyurethane foam, obtained using the above described method, including polyol containing a dispersed polymer from ethylene-unsaturated monomers with solid phase content of 40-45 wt %, a stabiliser prepared beforehand and polymerisation control reagents, including an initiator, distinguished by that the average size of the polymer particles in the polyol ranges from 0.05 to 0.5 mcm, with degree of polydispersity equal to 1.01-1.10 with the following ratio of ingredients (pts. wt): polyol - 48-55, polymer from ethylene-unsaturated monomers - 40-45, stabiliser prepared beforehand - 3.5-5.5.

EFFECT: increased sedimentation stability of the polyol composition, reduced degree of polydispersity of polymer particles in the polyol.
