FIELD: information technology.

SUBSTANCE: high-speed paging channel in a random access wireless communication system includes at least one bit in a high-speed paging frame which identifies availability of a paging message for an access terminal or a group of access terminals. High-speed paging bits which identify availability of a paging message for a first access terminal are coded together with one or more high-speed paging bits which correspond to one or more additional access terminals to form one or more forward error correction bits. Jointly coded high-speed paging bits are broadcast to access terminals through time-division multiplexing of the high-speed paging frame with additional information frames. The paging unit can also be compressed. OFDM modulation can be used to transmit the coded paging unit.

EFFECT: longer operation period of the mobile device.
