FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to ecology and soil science. The method involves taking a clean soil sample No.1, a biological agent sample No.2, a sample No.3 of soil contaminated with hydrocarbons or a sample No.4 of soil contaminated with hydrocarbon sludge, a sample No.3a of soil contaminated with hydrocarbons with addition of a biological agent, or a sample No.4a of soil contaminated with hydrocarbon sludge with addition of a biological agent. Dehydrogenase activity in the samples taken is determined in not more than one day using non-toxic reagents calcium carbonate, aqueous solutions of glucose, 2,3,5-triphenyltetrazolium chloride saturated with an alkaline solution of pyrogallol and ethanol. The beginning of cleanup of soil contaminated with hydrocarbons and neutralisation of hydrocarbon sludge using the biological agent is indicated by hydrogenase activity in sample No.3a or No.4a higher than that in sample No.3 or No.4 respectively. The end of cleanup and neutralisation is indicated by the same hydrogenase activity in sample No.3a or No.4a as that in sample No.1 or No.2 respectively.
EFFECT: method reduces labour input for monitoring cleanup of soil contaminated with hydrocarbons, and neutralisation of hydrocarbon sludge using a biological agent.
