SUBSTANCE: invention is related to wireless communication. Described are systems and methods which simply support for uplink soft handover in a TDD UMTS wireless communication medium. A virtual active set (VAS) for each user device can be generated on the side of the communication medium network, and sectors indicated in each VAS can be conveyed in corresponding lists. Sectors in VAS of a user device can have a scrambling code and resource assignments from the nominal sector servicing the user device. This information can be used when attempting to receive and demodulate uplink signals from the user device on all base stations from its VAS. Also such resources can be used when transmitting power control commands and reverse activity to the user device over a downlink.
EFFECT: increased transmission capacity.
