SUBSTANCE: invention describes systems and methods which enable feedback or control information encoding in a compact payload. In particular, a rank indicator, a precoding matrix indicator and a channel quality indicator are packed into the control channel payload which is placed in one subframe. The payload format is determined based, at least partially, on antenna configuration or channel quality indicator resolution. Also, the payload may include hybrid automatic repeat requests.

EFFECT: improved operating characteristics, particularly high throughput and reliability in wireless communication networks.
