FIELD: physics, communications.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to topology of communication networks and specifically to a communication device having a resilient packet ring (RPR) function. The technical result is achieved due to that frame transmission functional unit acts as a switch for frame transmission to an information recipient, extracted from a forwarding database (FDB). When a frame is transmitted to a ring selection unit, the frame transmission functional unit transmits a frame, where the frame is supplemented by a header from the device. RPR functional units process the RPR frame received from another communication device, or a frame from frame transmission functional units using ring processing functional units based on the RPR protocol. The ring selection unit searches in a switching table based on header information from the device, added into the frame using frame transmission functional units and RPR functional units, for frame transmission to the extracted recipient. The ring selection unit can distribute frames addressed to one port to several ports.

EFFECT: increased transmission capacity and increased reliability of the ring network.
