SUBSTANCE: invention relates to methods and a device for performing a clearing process in the port of a network switch. The method comprises an avalanche transmission operation and an operation for restudying MAC addresses, the two operations being made independent of each other; starting the operation for restudying MAC addresses before the end of the avalanche transmission operation; starting an operation for redirecting packets to the restudied MAC addresses before the end of the avalanche transmission operation; performing the avalanche transmission operation and the restudying operation respectively with a link to two artificially provided different instances of the cleared port, wherein to perform the clearing process in the port of the network switch, the two different instances are assigned to each port of said set when the clearing process is required for a specific port; declaring the "clearing" state only for one of the instances of the specific port; performing the avalanche transmission operation using the instance which is in a "clearing" state, and performing the restudying operation and the redirection operation using the instance which is not in a "clearing" state.
EFFECT: faster clearing in a network switch.
