FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to physics and charged particle beam technology, specifically to linear accelerators. The linear electron accelerator has an electron beam injector with a thermionic-emission cathode, an accelerating cavity in form of a biperiodic chain of linked cells, a microwave oscillator for powering the accelerating cavity, vacuum pumping, power and control devices. The chain of linked cells has accelerating cells with drift tubes on the axis and connection cells. Between the beam injector and the accelerating cavity there is a beam aperture filter in form of a tube. The diametre of the aperture of this tube is less than the diametre of the cathode of the injector. Drift tubes in the accelerating cells have a varying aperture diametre which is the least at the beginning of the accelerating cavity and the greatest at the end of the accelerating cavity.
EFFECT: invention increases efficiency of the accelerator.
