SUBSTANCE: any error, byte extension or data compression will be minimised so as to affect a small multimedia playback part. A method for encrypting a multimedia file is disclosed, which involves steps on which syntax analysis of the multimedia file is carried out in order to identify part of the media data which is then encrypted and combined with an unencrypted part of non-media data. A method of playing back a multimedia file is also disclosed, which includes steps on which syntax analysis of the multimedia file is carried out in order to identify the unencrypted part of metadata which is then used to determine the position of interest in the media file, where the said position of interest has a related encrypted part of media data which is then decrypted. Disclosed also is a device for implementing the said methods.
EFFECT: design of a method and a device for encrypting only video data of the codec traffic stream, leaving meta-content untouched.
