SUBSTANCE: disclosed is a file (102) recording apparatus (100), having associated media data storage (104) and metadata storage (106), comprising: a receiver (108) for obtaining first data packets (110), including packetised first media data samples, based on a first clock generator, and for obtaining second data packets (112), including second media data samples, based on a second clock generator different from the first clock generator, where the second media data samples are associated with the first media data samples; and for obtaining first control packets (114), including information indicating the ratio of the first clock generator to the source clock generator, and for obtaining second control packets (115), including information indicating the ratio of the second clock generator to the source clock generator; and a recording device (116) for storing the obtained first and second data packets (110; 112) and at least a portion of the obtained first and second control packets (114; 115) in the media data storage (104); and for storing associated metadata (124; 128) in the metadata storage (106).
EFFECT: efficient storage and processing of packets, eg precise synchronisation of sound and decoding when reproducing recorded media streams.
