FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: invention describes a mixture for making low-density material which contains 50-90 wt % polymer microspheres and 10-50 wt % thermally-expanded polymer microspheres. The thermally expanded polymer microspheres contain a foaming agent and have initial melting point of 75-116°C and maximum melting point of up to 200°C. Described also is a method of making low-density material using this mixture. The method involves mixing initial components of the mixture in the required ratio, moulding at 80-200°C and cooling. The mixture is heated to moulding temperature at a rate of 1-4°C/min. The obtained material has density of 0.1-0.25 g/cm3.

EFFECT: production of low-density material which can be used, for instance in holding and protecting devices from mechanical effects.
